Management

Manage your client-

        Guide their career

Do you dream of representing the next great sports superstar? Do you want to run a major music festival or sporting event? At the National Student Leadership Conference on Sports & Entertainment Management, you will have the opportunity to experience what it’s like to guide the career of a star athlete or entertainer and manage one of the world’s premier sporting events or music festivals.

Interactive Career Simulations
The NSLC on Sports & Entertainment Management uses an interactive approach to learning that gives you an opportunity to immerse yourself in the challenging complexities of the sports and entertainment worlds. You and your team will experience the ups and downs of managing the career of a star athlete or entertainer during a realistic client management simulation. You will control your client’s fortunes as you negotiate contracts, land sponsorship deals, and manage public opinion.

Meet Sports & Entertainment Management Professionals
While at the NSLC, you will meet with and learn from leaders in the world of sports and entertainment management. In past years, NSLC students have heard from special guest speakers including top executives and managers from the International Olympic Committee, D.C. United and the Staten Island Yankees. You will experience the sports and entertainment management world firsthand during exclusive site visits and tours at:

  • Yankee Stadium
  • Madison Square Garden
  • The Meadowlands

Who’s In Your Inner Circle

One of many mistakes I’ve made throughout my life is giving some people more access to my life than I should have. The lesson for me is to understand that people come into our lives for a “reason,” “season,” or a “lifetime.” It’s critical to understand what role people play in our lives. Not every acquaintance should become a friendship; or every friendship a best friend; or every best friend a love interest; Nor every love interest a marriage. We each have unique gifts which are to be nurtured and protected. Sharing too much or not enough of ourselves can hinder our growth and development.

Give some thought to the people who are in your life. What role do they play? For example, an enemy can teach you a lot about yourself if you are open to examining the feedback they provide. A new friend can enter your life during a period of transition like the death of a loved one, loss of a job or determining what major to declare and then they exit-sometimes for good. Your best friend from elementary school can continuously help to shape your life and supporting your dreams even when you are separated by distance or haven’t spoken in a while.

As an effective leader, you must understand your inner circle, comprised of a cadre of trustworthy individuals, that know the most about your desires, secrets, fears and aspirations. This unique support system may be comprised of people like a track coach who helps to improve your running, throwing or jumping abilities (a reason person); an old boyfriend/girlfriend who meant the world to you as you moved through high school (a season person); and a parent who works daily to provide your basic needs (a lifetime person).

Be careful when creating your inner circle! Choose only those persons committed to your vision and have your best interest at heart. You are a gift, not better than or less than anyone else in the world. You are simply valuable and significant and you deserve to have the best nurture your development.

Who’s in your inner circle? Whose inner circle are you in?
